Teachers as Policy Analysts: A Study on Reimagining the Virginia Literacy Act

What happens when teachers become policy analysts? Dr. Candace Bechtold presents qualitative research reframing educators as "policy analysts" of the Virginia Literacy Act. Participants will engage in a collaborative session to "analyze" the VLA and share their voices to help reimagine literacy instruction in the Commonwealth.

This session explores how ScratchJr coding supports elementary students in demonstrating standards-based understanding while developing academic oral language and student agency. A classroom teacher and technology coach will share a second grade life cycle project and guide participants in exploring ScratchJr and designing a project for their classroom.
